CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX

I crawl across the bed before I settle myself on the edge. With wide eyes, I watch, almost anxiously, as Xavier packs up a small bag.

“Say the word.” Xavier stops moving and stands there with an attentive eye.

“Word?” I question.

“Just let me know and I will stay here.” Xavier makes it perfectly clear that he’s willing to blow off anything he has planned to make sure we are doing well—to make sure I’m doing well.

“Business calls,” I remind him.

“They will completely understand.”

Climbing out of bed, I stand in front of him before I snake my arms around his torso.

“I’m fine,” I note. “Everyone here is perfectly capable of making sure I stay out of trouble.”

“Trouble?” Xavier’s eyebrow curves.

“You know, acting wild, cliff diving and shit.”

“See, I’m staying.” Xavier is obviously not fond of my joke.

“Stop it.”

I toss the remainder of his items in his bag before I shove his bag into his arms.

“If I need anything, Steven, or Brittany, or even Allen and Kayla are here to help me,” I reassure him. “You have business to handle now.”

It’s easy to see how apprehensive he is when it comes to leaving; however he knows there is business he has to tend to.

“If there is trouble, I promise I will call immediately.”

Xavier tosses his bag over his shoulder.

“You better,” he threatens before stealing a quick kiss. “Four days.”

“Four days.”

Xavier turns away before he leaves the room, leaving me alone to ponder on all the things I have planned ahead of me.

But first, there is someone I need to speak to.
